My cat has a spot above his eye, on the top of his head, where the fur has thinned and some of it is gone. The skin there is very raw-looking, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. Even when I touch it, he doesn’t react in a way that would suggest it’s painful. I would say the spot is a little smaller than a nickel.
Does anyone know what this might be and what to do about it?
It could be a lot of things, including ringworm (which as someone has already notes, is contagious to humans). No need to panic, but you should talk to your vet). You’re welcome to post a picture on our health forums on TCS -

Fred was overjoyed to finally have his cat in the mail. He thought the cat was too exited to move. I think you can tell REALLY why the cat won’t move.
